Common Ground Funding Expanded

12 May 2026

The Government has announced an additional £1 million to expand its Common Ground programme, aimed at helping councils and communities tackle antisemitism and strengthen community cohesion in areas facing the greatest risk.

The funding, announced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, will support local projects including community safety initiatives, youth and school programmes, interfaith work and efforts to challenge antisemitic hate and misinformation.

According to the Government, the additional funding is intended to help local authorities, faith groups, schools, police forces and voluntary organisations work together to respond to rising tensions and support Jewish communities. The programme will focus on practical, locally-led action tailored to the needs of different places and communities.

The expansion builds on more than £4 million already committed through the Common Ground programme and follows wider government announcements on protective security, policing and action to tackle antisemitism in schools, colleges and universities.

Housing and Communities Secretary Steve Reed said the rise in antisemitism in Britain and globally was “intolerable” and stressed the importance of supporting local partners to take “early, practical action to keep people safe, strengthen communities and stand up to hate.”
