A new AI-powered tool designed to help people access government information and support more quickly has been launched through the GOV.UK app.
GOV.UK Chat allows users to ask questions in plain language and receive instant answers drawn from official GOV.UK guidance. The tool is intended to help people navigate a wide range of services and information, including childcare support, apprenticeships, pensions, driving and transport, first-home schemes, and business support.
According to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the tool has been developed to provide faster and easier access to information, while also helping reduce pressure on government helplines and frontline services.
The Government says GOV.UK Chat has been designed to support people at key moments in their lives and improve access to reliable information through a more user-friendly digital experience.

Responding to the announcement, Kerry Booth, Chief Executive of the Rural Services Network, said:
Improving access to government services through simpler and more intuitive digital tools is a positive step, particularly where it helps people quickly access information, support and entitlements.
However, as more essential services move online, it is vital that rural communities are not left behind. For many people living in rural areas, unreliable mobile coverage, inconsistent broadband connectivity and digital exclusion remain everyday realities.
Digital access is now essential infrastructure for modern life, whether that is accessing healthcare, banking, education, business support or government services. As we continue to modernise public services, it is crucial that investment in rural digital connectivity keeps pace, ensuring rural residents and businesses can benefit equally from these developments.
