The Right to Buy provides an important route for social housing tenants to own their own homes, many of whom may not otherwise be able to access home ownership. Over 2 million tenants have bought under the Right to Buy since it was introduced in 1980. However, many of the homes sold under the Right to Buy have not been replaced.
