Final Settlement Published

The Rural Services Network (RSN) is pleased that the Final Settlement for Local Government, announced last week in Parliament with a written statement from the Minister, includes the additional £4 Million pounds for the Rural Services Delivery Grant set out in the Provisional Statement

RSN urge rural authorities to respond to the consultation

The Government announced the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement on 17th December 2020 This sets out the funding that Local Authorities will receive for the period 2021-2022.  The Rural Services Network is concerned that once again, rural councils (and the communities they serve) are not receiving a fair share of resources being made available by the Government to support local authority services.

Still no fair share for rural communities

Last week’s Provisional Settlement for 2021/22 for local government once again means rural residents paying more in Council Tax (per head) than their urban counterparts

The Rural Services Network welcomes the news of an increase in Rural Services Delivery Grant in the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement for 2021-2022 announced today.   The RSN represents over 120 rural local authorities across the length and breadth of England and campaigns strongly for fair funding for rural areas.

Comprehensive Spending Review – Key Rural Concerns

Last week the Government announced a one-year Spending Review for 2020, the long- term spending review being abandoned in favour of a short term approach to prioritise the response to Covid-19 and a focus on supporting jobs. There are some multi-year commitments, however The Rural Services Network is examining the announcements in more detail, and the consequences of decisions in this review will only become apparent when more detail is released by the Government. – including the Provisional Finance Settlement for Local Government due in December

RSN Initial response to Comprehensive Spending Review

The hotly anticipated Comprehensive Spending Review was announced today, and given the unprecedented times in which we live, it was always going to be critical to see how the Government would support the shrinking economy and ensure the sustained delivery of vital services to residents Central to the work of the Rural Services Network has always been fair funding for rural areas and the detail is yet to be explored to see if rural areas have fared well from the announcements
