RSN backs calls for better affordable housing in rural areas as part of Rural Housing Week 2023

This week the National Housing Federation (NFH) is running its annual campaign which highlights the challenges facing rural areas when it comes to housing.  There have been some truly dreadful statistics released as part of this around the hidden homelessness crisis facing rural areas.  This is despite news from the Government this week about energy caps and improved fundings for high-quality, energy efficient new affordable homes.  Great headlines, but what sits behind them for our rural communities?

Government commits to strengthening local care systems

Following the publication of two key reports, the Government has committed to several measures to support Integrated Care Systems (ICS).  The Hewitt Review and the Health and Social Care Committee (HSCC) inquiry both highlighted the role ICS must play in delivering local services.

RSN response to Spring Budget 23

The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP launched the Spring Budget 2023 last week in Parliament and the Rural Services Network has been exploring some of the headline announcements to see their impact for rural communities. Indeed, whether the policies introduced have been rural proofed at all is up for discussion with rural mentioned only once in the whole 122 page document (apart from in the title of DEFRA).

The Border Counties Advertizer reports that North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has accused the Government of “pork barrel politics” after fresh Levelling Up funding was handed out to the ‘Red Wall’ constituencies at the expense of rural areas
